NBA 2K MyTEAM Explained: Modes, Collections and Solo Play

MyTEAM is NBA 2K’s card-collecting team-building mode. You assemble a roster from player cards spanning current stars, legends and WNBA players, then take that team into a range of single-player and multiplayer modes. It sits alongside MyCAREER and MyNBA as one of the game’s three biggest modes, and it changes more from year to year than almost any other part of the series. This guide explains how MyTEAM works in NBA 2K27, released September 4, 2026, with a focus on structure, modes and solo play. It is a neutral explainer: no pack-opening strategies, trading-for-profit tips or spending advice.

The Basics: Cards, Collections and Lineups

Everything in MyTEAM revolves around player cards. Each card represents a player with a set of ratings and badges. Cards come in tiers that reflect their strength, and the series has long used gem-themed tier names to show how rare and powerful a card is. Higher-tier cards generally have better ratings and more powerful badges.

NBA 2K27 also uses Parallels, alternate card designs for the same player item, with styles such as Glass, Gem, Holo and On Fire. These are primarily about collection and presentation.

Your lineup is the team you take into games: starters, bench and coaching options. Coach cards can add boosts, and in NBA 2K27 they stack with other systems such as Evolutions and Dynamic Duos, which reward pairing specific players.

Collections track which cards you own. Completing collection milestones unlocks rewards, which gives the mode a long-term goal beyond winning games.

If you are new to card-collecting modes in general, our explainer on Ultimate Team-style modes covers the shared concepts, including chemistry systems, objectives, earnable versus purchasable currency, pack probability disclosure and parental controls.

What’s New in NBA 2K27 MyTEAM

2K highlighted several structural changes for this edition.

Player XP

Every player card now levels up through play, with stronger on-court performance speeding progression. Rewards from leveling include attribute boosts, the ability to start a game with Takeover active, an extra turbo meter and an additional badge slot. Progress is tied to your account, so it is kept even if a card leaves your collection and resumes if you get the card back.

The Exchange

The Exchange lets you trade in player cards for other rewards. In NBA 2K27 it accepts any player card in your collection, including cards from Season levels and cards already counted toward a Collection Reward, though Free Agent cards are excluded. The idea is that cards you no longer use still have value within the game.

Scouting Report

A new Scouting Report section in Collections lists cards you have recently faced and shows how each one can be obtained: through the Pack Market, the Auction House or a game mode reward. This makes it easier to see which cards are available through play.

Unified Auction House

The Auction House is now unified across PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. 2K says transactions remain closely monitored. We cover it here only as a feature; this site does not offer trading or profit advice.

Single-Player Modes

MyTEAM has a large single-player side, which matters for anyone who prefers not to play online.

Breakout

Breakout uses a dynamic board that expands as you progress, with each “warp” opening new paths and reward opportunities. It works like a map you clear by winning games against CPU teams.

Infinite Gauntlet

Infinite Gauntlet continues as long as you have eligible cards to use. It adds evolving twists for opponents, collection shops and a seasonal leaderboard, giving solo players a long-form challenge with a competitive element.

Challenges and events

Seasonal content regularly adds single-player challenges, often themed around players or events, with rewards for completion. These rotate throughout the year.

Multiplayer Modes

MyTEAM’s multiplayer modes rotate through the year, with weekend runs, special festivals and full Seasons. In NBA 2K27, they include:

Mode What it is
Triple Threat Online Three-on-three games, returning as a community favorite
Clutch Time Online Shorter, high-intensity games, also returning
Limited Games with lineup restrictions that change on a schedule
Salary Cap Lineups built under a cap, so you cannot simply field the highest-rated cards
Triple Threat Park A streetball-style space with 2v2 and 3v3 co-op runs and head-to-head team-control matchups, using your MyTEAM cards
All-Star Team-Up Games in full NBA and WNBA arenas with broadcast commentary

Modes with lineup rules, such as Limited and Salary Cap, are interesting for players who do not own the highest-rated cards, because they put restrictions on everyone.

Seasons and Rewards

Like most live modes, MyTEAM runs in Seasons that last several weeks. Each Season has its own level track with rewards, and new content arrives throughout the year. NBA 2K27 also has a daily login system with three tiers: a reward each day, extra rewards for streaks of three, five and seven days, and lifetime rewards based on total login days.

2K describes several play-based routes to rewards in NBA 2K27:

  • Season levels and Collection Rewards
  • Player XP progression on your cards
  • Breakout and Infinite Gauntlet rewards
  • Rewards from multiplayer and event modes
  • Daily login rewards

Playing MyTEAM Without Spending

MyTEAM can be played using cards and rewards earned through gameplay. A sensible approach for players who prefer not to spend money:

  • Focus on single-player progression. Breakout, Infinite Gauntlet and challenges provide steady rewards at your own pace.
  • Use the Scouting Report. It tells you which cards you have seen can be earned through game modes.
  • Level your cards. Player XP means cards you use regularly improve over time.
  • Try modes with restrictions. Salary Cap and Limited put lineups on more equal terms.
  • Set your own goals. Completing collections or building a team of favorite players can be more satisfying than chasing every top card.

Spending Controls and Responsible Play

MyTEAM includes optional purchases, and as with all card-collecting modes, it is worth understanding how they work before you play.

Three cards on MyTEAM responsible play: know what packs contain, set limits, keep it a game

  • Know what you are buying. Packs contain random items. Where pack probability information is shown in the game, read it before opening anything.
  • Use platform controls. PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo and PC storefronts all offer spending limits and purchase restrictions, which are especially important on accounts used by younger players.
  • Keep it a game. Card values inside the game are not real-world investments, and MyTEAM is best enjoyed as a basketball mode, not a marketplace.

Criticism of microtransactions has been a recurring theme in reviews of the series, including for NBA 2K27, which is worth bearing in mind when deciding how you want to engage with the mode.

How MyTEAM Fits in NBA 2K

MyTEAM is one of three major pillars in NBA 2K, alongside MyCAREER, the create-a-player mode, and MyNBA, the franchise suite. Many players move between all three. If you have just picked up the game, our NBA 2K beginner’s guide covers controls and shooting basics that apply in every mode, and our NBA 2K series history explains how these modes evolved over more than two decades.

A Sensible First Week in MyTEAM

MyTEAM throws a lot at new players: menus, currencies, seasons, events and dozens of modes. A calm, structured start makes it much easier to understand.

  1. Complete the introductory content. Early tasks explain menus and typically give you a starting roster to work with.
  2. Play single-player games first. Breakout and challenges let you learn how your cards play without the pressure of online opponents.
  3. Set a lineup that suits your style. If you like shooting from deep, prioritize shooters; if you prefer inside play, look for strong bigs. Badges matter as much as overall ratings.
  4. Check the Season track. Knowing what the current Season rewards for playing helps you choose which modes to focus on.
  5. Try one multiplayer mode. Once comfortable, sample a mode with lineup restrictions, such as Salary Cap or Limited, to see how your team holds up against people.
  6. Revisit your settings. If the account is shared or used by a younger player, set up platform purchase restrictions before playing further.
